If using a recoil gun, you have to have IR. If you are using a non-recoil gun like SureStrikeMAG, the Flashbolt, ATLP, or your gun with a laser cartridge (which would be a pain as you'd have to rack the slide, unless it's DA gun). Hope that helps.
