The new and improved red/blue REAL kit that comes with the PST cartridge are just an updated/improved one. There is nothing wrong, per say, with the older version and it will continue to work as promised. The PST cartridge is activated by the pistol/firing pin versus the vibration in the older (blue barrel) REAL kits. It has a shorter pulse so you have less chances of laser misfires when reloading, for example. Plus since not vibration, your battery should last a bit longer too. There is no need/requirement to update your gear unless you want to. What you have still should work fine, so it's up to you.
