Safety pipe extends out of my barrel Subcompact Safety Pipe

My barrel is 3” long and the subcompact safety pipe sticks out of the end quite a bit, so much so that when I put the cap on, the safety pipe is exposed just under half of an inch. Am I doing something wrong or is it supposed to be that way?

You aren't doing anything wrong. This is meant to fit a range of barrels and yours is on the shorter end of that range.
